🤖 AI is changing how fintech scales, lends and goes public

AI is moving beyond R&D teams and into the core of European fintech products — integrating into underwriting, automation, and strategic planning.

Klarna’s AI assistant now handles two-thirds of customer service chats in 35 languages, equivalent to 700 full-time staff. In lending, Experian reports growing SME demand is pushing lenders toward AI-driven credit models to better serve thin-file segments.

Fintech IPO hopefuls are also under pressure to prove AI defensibility. PitchBook’s Q1 update names AI differentiation as a key metric for late-stage European fintechs seeking liquidity.

But compliance is the next test. The incoming EU AI Act will place stricter demands on transparency, explainability and oversight — especially for financial risk models. Several sessions this year will explore what that means for go-to-market speed and infrastructure decisions.

Governance 2.0 in Action

As AI accelerates fintech innovation, regulatory architecture is struggling to keep pace. That’s why Money20/20 Europe is introducing Policy Exchange — a new invite-only forum bringing together central banks, regulators, and fintech leaders for three closed-door roundtables tackling the most urgent challenges in digital finance.

Set across Tuesday afternoon, the program confronts the regulatory impact of MiCA, the rollout of Europe’s Financial Data Access (FiDA) framework, and cross-border policy innovation. Project Agora, tokenization, and real-time compliance models all feature on the agenda.

With participants from BIS, Swift, Mastercard, Revolut, and national regulators, Policy Exchange opens space for coordinated action on critical issues like data access, market stability, and financial integrity.

This is a great opportunity to align innovation with oversight — and to influence the next phase of digital finance governance from inside the room.
